The spring agenda for beaten Caulfield Cup favourite Kings Will Dream remain undecided.

Trainer Darren Weir and his connections are weighing up whether to back up the European import in Saturday’s WS Cox Plate despite the superficial lacerations he suffered when finishing a luckless sixth in the Caulfield Cup won by Best Solution.

The lightly raced five-year-old stumbled shortly after the start and almost dislodged his rider Craig Williams. After the race he was found to have lacerations and requires a vet clearance before racing again.

The Melbourne Cup is not an option for Kings Will Dream with Weir indicating a start in the Cox Plate is being considered as well as the $2 million Emirates Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on November 10.

Weir has last year’s runner-up Humidor set to take on Wins again in the Saturday’s $5 million WS Cox Plate (2040m) in what is shaping as one of the smallest field in the weight-for-age championship in 30 years.

There may be no more than eight runners with the confirmed rivals for Winx including Caulfield Stakes winner Benbatl, Blair House, Avilius and New Zealand’s last-start G1 winner Savvy Coup.

Saturday’s impressive Caulfield winner Thinkin’ Big will not back up in the Cox Plate with the three-year-0oild going straight to the Victoria Derby over 2500m at Flemington on Saturday week.

Co-trained Adrian Bott said taking on Winx in the Cox Plate would only jeopardise the colt’s chances of winning the Derby.

“It is no easy task taking her on, she is just incredible,” Bott said.
