2018 HOTHAM HANDICAP – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Early pace from Northwest Passage, Runaway, Rising Red and potentially Sole Impact. Looks like being a true test at the trip.

BRIMHAM ROCKS has strung together placings and this might be his chance to cash in and covert that good form into winning form. Terrific when stretching Avilius and then again last time when best of the rest behind a rampant Yucatan.

A PRINCE OF ARRAN was a big eye catcher alongside him there and thinking that form will come to the fore. He will relish the bigger galloping track at Flemington and has to be a key threat.

GALLIC CHIEFTAIN is going well and will be competitive along with Jaameh and Yogi who are both good Flemington horses.

Form Preview

Having his second start in Australia, English-trained stayer A Prince Of Arran put up a solid staying performance in winning here, gaining a start in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) in the process. He raced in fifth place, moved up well rounding the home turn, raced to the front nearing the 200m and then fought back gamely when challenged to score well. The Chris Waller-trained Brimham Rocks raced in seventh place (one off the rails), tracked the eventual winner from the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then battled really well for a good second, his eighth placing in as many starts since coming to Australia. Jaameh had a nice trip in fourth place on the rails, got a split at the 200m and then battled on to take third, just in front of Gallic Chieftain who was eighth at the 800m, improved (deep) coming to the home turn and the fought on for (2.5 lengths) fourth.
