2018 ZIPPING CLASSIC – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Dal Harraild will be up there. Sir Isaac Newton could press forward and The Taj Mahal will be wanting to get rolling nice and early.

THE TAJ MAHAL won this last year. Was coming off a solid effort in the Mackinnon 12 months ago, and this time he arrives off a well-held run in the Moonee Valley Cup, but his JRA Cup and Caulfield Cup runs show him going just as well and he gets a chance to run things on his terms in the smaller field now.

VENTURA STORM was backed off the boards to win that Moonee Valley Cup. Did a good job before failing to fire in the Melbourne Cup. This is the right race for him.

LORD FANDANGO missed last week. Bendigo run was promising. Libran is going well but struggles to break through.

Zipping Classic (G2)

Type: OPEN

The Taj Mahal made it back-to-back victories in the Zipping Classic (Gr 2, 2400m) with a game performance in winning here, albeit by the barest of margins. He settled nicely under Ben Melham in second place, closing tracking the leader (Dal Harraild), that pair being well clear of the other runners. He put pressure on the runner from the 800m, gained a narrow advantage at the 200m and then dug deep in a hectic battle to score by a short half head at the post. British import Dal Harraild, having his third start since joining the Cairon Maher and David Eustace stable, ran a bold race. He went to the front and fought gallantly all the way to the post for the closest of seconds in a very promising staying performance.
