Enticing Star Wins Perth Trial

3 minute read

Exciting Perth sprinter Enticing Star reignited her Winterbottom Stakes claims with an impressive barrier trial win on Monday.

Enticing Star suffered her first career loss in nine starts when she missed a place in the G2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on November 10.

Trainer Adam Durrant was left in a quandary over her disappointing sixth but she was later found to be in season.

Monday’s trial win over 950m at Lark Hill has the Testa Rossa mare was back on track for the $1 million Winterbottom (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday week.

The Bob Peters-owned mare wore blinkers and responded well to sprint home from the back of the field under Peter Hall to win the trial by one and a half lengths.

William Pike will be Enticing Star’s rider in the Winterbottom Stakes with the mare second favourite in most markets behind last year’s winner Viddora .

Peters, the leading owner in WA, was delighted by Enticing Star’s trial performance.

“I was quite relieved and she was back to her normal self,” he told WA Racing.

“She will continue to wear the blinkers in the Winterbottom Stakes and William will be back from holidays to take the mount."

The Lloyd Kennewell-trained Viddora landed in Perth on Monday on a charter flight from Melbourne carrying a big contingent of interstate horses for the Perth carnival.

Among the horses on board were the Darren Weir team Peaceful State, Iconoclasm, Junipal, Voodoo Lad and Holy Snow, last start Mackinnon Stakes winner Trap For Fools, I’ll Have a Bit, Runson and Ulusaba.

Weir has booked Damien Oliver to ride Voodoo Lad in the Winterbottom Stakes on Saturday week.

The WA-born champion rider will be chasing his second win in the sprint after his 2006 win aboard Marasco.

Weir added Holy Snow to his Perth team after he finished second at Sandown last Saturday. He is set for the Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 8.

A quick recovery from a bruised hoof will see Scales Of Justice start in the $1 million Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 8 after he was ruled out of Saturday’s Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot.

Trainer Lindsey Smith did not accept for the Railway Stakes after he found Scales Of Justice to be suffering from bruising to his off-side front hoof.

The 2016 Railway Stakes winner has just returned to racing after a long lay-off because of back problems.
