Local mare Galaxy Star and the Darren Weir-trained Peaceful State continue to dominate the betting market after the barrier draw for Saturday’s $12 million Railway Stakes at Ascot.
With inside barriers considered a vital asset from the 1600m start at Ascot Galaxy Star drew well in barrier 2 with Peaceful State also in close in gate four.
Tuesday’s draw saw Galaxy Star firm from $3.50 to $3.20 with TAB Fixed Odds while Peaceful State tightened from $5 to $4.60.The only other acceptor under double figures is Peaceful State’s stablemate Iconoclasm, who eased from $8 to $9.50 after drawing wide in gate 12.
Peaceful State and Iconoclasm, third and sixth respectively in the G1 Kennedy Mile at Flemington on November 10, arrived in Perth on Monday and are under the care of Jarrod McLean.McLean said a Railway Stakes quinella by Peaceful State and Iconoclasm is possible if the race pans out as he anticipates.
“Hopefully Iconoclasm is striking at the top of the straight and looks the winner and if anyone’s going to run him down hopefully it’s Peaceful State,” McLean said.“Peaceful State will be in the second half of the field and if he can negotiate clear traffic he’s got a barnstorming finish when things are run to suit.”
Ben Allen rides Peaceful State while Craig Williams has the mount on Iconoclasm.
