Trial Watch Report - Reviews and Runners

3 minute read

Trial Watch reviews of barrier trials at Warwick Farm on November 19, Rosehill on November 21 and Newcastle on November 22 plus noted trial runners on November 24--27.

ROSEHILL November 19

Good 4; Inside Grass

15 Heats – 3 x 1030m (1 Open; 2 C1/Maiden); 12 x 900m (4 2YO; 2 Open; 4 Maiden; 2 3YO)

MISS AMELIA (Bjorn Baker): Emerging as a boom filly after recording her second impressive trial win to go with her classy effort at Warwick Farm on November 9. This time she led her 900m heat comfortably and had plenty in hand cruising to the line to safely hold a good effort from a promising runner-up HIDDEN TALENT. Her time (54.32) was sharp and she could have gone quicker. Ready to go to the races.

DEPRIVE (James Cummings): Big second trial since April to come from five lengths off the leaders and round up some good types in quick time over the 900m (53.94; 34.50), running through the line with plenty to offer. Only had the four starts as a 3YO last season for two wins and should be adding to that record.

SAMADOUBT (Bjorn Baker): Second successive trial win by this free running mare and this was a lot sharper than her prior effort at Warwick Farm on November 9, leading her 900m heat by a good margin and doing it easily all the way to score by almost four lengths in 54.15 (34.70). Set to resume in the right form.

ENJOY ELSIE (Team Hawkes): This Sepoy filly blew away her rivals to lead out by five lengths in the first 400m and went further in front to score by 8.8 lengths in the fastest 900m heat of the session (52.98; 34.30). Placed only start at Hawkesbury in August, she has the obvious speed to win races over the short courses.

GOGOLDCOAST (Chris Waller): First trial by this All Too Hard gelding stamped him as above average as he shared the lead with the previously noted trial winner Kapajack and was always travelling better to safely hold him after they sprinted keenly from the 400m. Put good time on the board (53.62; 34.80) with something in hand.

NOTED TRIALS: Stryke Rock; Collateral; Regent; Barbary; Commander’s Watch; Great Emperor; Accession; Nuclear Summit; Lubuk; Kavalmo; Miss Amelia; Hidden Talent; Athiri; Deprive; Taygeta; Samadoubt; Albumin; Sizzling Ace; Skyann; Admissable; Enjoy Elsie; Osorno; The Runner; Gogoldcoas; First Footman.

WARWICK FARM November 21

Good 4; A Grass

14 Heats – 3 x 1200m (1 Open; 2 Maiden); 5 x 807m (3 Open; 2 2YO); 6 x 804m (6 Maiden)

SAINT AMBROSE (Richard Freedman): Two good placings in early trials from this Sepoy colt and looks to have come on nicely from that judging by his soft second in the fastest of the two 2YO heats. The winner Aeecee Vinco was under more pressure while Saint Ambrose did it easily sitting wide two lengths off the leaders from the jump, closing easily and going to the line unextended in a close finish.

EASY EDDIE (Joseph Pride): Smart sprinter came through the classes in good style last season and looks set to go on with it after two recent trials. Did it easily to lead this 807m heat by three lengths and was untouched to hold that advantage to the line in a sharp 47.78 (33.70) with a lot up his sleeve.

ANTONIO (Mark Newnham); Last maiden trial over 804m of the day produced the quickest heat winner (47.31; 33.90) by this I Am Invincible colt who has raced only once. He’s now won two recent trials and judging by this effort, when he sat on the back of the leader and railed strongly to forge away for a soft win, he will make his mark when next produced.

NOTED TRIALS: Invinzabeel; Red Henno; Belgrade; Aeecee Vinco; Saint Ambrose; Bombarding; Intuition; Easy Eddie; Ballistica; Witches; Social Smile; Solera; Aim For Perfection; Vinci Lady; Nijinska; Unify; Starring; Isilmo; Antonio; Begin.

NOTED TRIALS: Star Crossed; Dreamy Belle; Roman Candle; Snowzone; Difficult To Get; Pancake; Magnolia Power; Mornay; Benatari; Nostro Re; Looksea; Alternative Facts.

TRIAL WATCH RUNNERS

Noted Trial Runners – November 24-27

ROSEHILL SATURDAY: Cardiff (R1); Tassort (R1); Spaceboy 9R1); Slow Burn (R3); Demerara (R3); Problem Solver (R3); Sir Bacchus (R5); Our Belisa (R5); Smartedge (R5); Bye See (R5); Island Missile (R6); Lisdoonvarna (R6).

CARDIFF/TASSORT (Canterbury November 13): Exciting prospects CARDIFF and TASSORT added to their reputations when they clashed in the fastest of the three juvenile heats (53.66; 34.20). CARDIFF had the superior speed to lead and kept running to score by 3.3 lengths while the Godolphin blueblood TASSORT, having won his first trial at Rosehill on November 2, was under restraint with no urgency from Tye Angland to chase down the leader over the last 400m. Take it that this reliable form.

SPACEBOY (Warwick Farm November 9)): Looks a typical fast running youngster after he opened up a big lead in first 300m, increasing his advantage the further they went to score by a soft six lengths, noting that his chasers were put under pressure and made little headway. He ran the time (47.37; 34.10) but bear in mind this was only 800m and to win races he has to sustain this speed over longer under more pressure. He’s a $200,000 Magic Millions yearling so we know where he’s heading.

TASSORT (Rosehill November 2): No doubt Godolphin will have aspirations for this stylish half-brother to G1 winners Astern and Alizee by Brazen Beau. Bold galloping action was evident as he travelled well within himself in the lead and was eager to go quicker over the last 300m when well clear of his rivals, running the quickest of the 2YO heats (54.20/35.00).

CARDIFF (Warwick Farm October 19): Smart trial by this Snitzel colt. He did it well from the front in the quickest of all the 740m heats and was sharp running the quickest last 600m (43.06/32.80). Solid trial form.

GOSFORD SATURDAY: Czarson (R1); Light Exceed (R2); On The Top (R4); Verve (R6)

BALLARAT SATURDAY: Not A Royal Doubt (R4)

PORT MACQUARIE TUESDAY: Miss Powerbelle (R2)
