Top Honours For Raquel Clark

Adelaide apprentice Raquel Clark has capped a memorable year in the saddle with major honours at the South Australian Apprentice Academy awards.

Clark took out the UBET Dux of the Academy Award at Monday night’s event, recognizing her achievements across the 2017-18 season.

With 98 winners the 25 year old finished fourth in the Adelaide jockey premiership last season and fourth in the SA premiership.

Her start to the new season has gone to new heights with Clark currently sitting second on both the ,etropolitan and SA standings behind Jamie Kah.

In the last 12 months Clark has won three Listed races including her first South Australian stakes winner in the Murray Bridge Cup with the Sue Jaensch-trained Von Costa Glass.

She also returned to Tasmania to team I’m Wesley for wins in the Conquering Stakes and Tasmanian Newmarket.

Clark also made headlines last month riding five winners in one day at Morphettville on Cox Plate Day.

Clark also picked up the SATA Award for Most Winners in the Academy Season and The Advertiser Media Award for the best media performed apprentice.

Clark will now follow in the footsteps of previous Dux winners by enjoying a riding stint in Singapore next year where she will ride at Kranji.

Clark’s bosses Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas took home the SAJA Award for Master of the Dux. Over the last twelve months Clark has ridden 20 winners and 38 placings for the stable from 118 rides at a 17% win and 49% place strike rate.

The Dux Runner-Up was Kayla Crowther. Last Friday Crowther was crowned SA Junior Sports Star of the Year at the SA Sports Awards.

In the 2017-18 season she finished third in the SA premiership and has continued that good form this season currently sitting in fourth.

She also took out this year’s Caitlin Forrest Memorial Award, proudly presented by Caitlin’s mother Yvonne.

Other winners included Alfred Chan who took home the Office for Recreation and Sport Endeavour and Sportsmanship Award while Alice Lindsay was awarded the SAJC Rising Star Award for the best Junior Apprentice.

Gary Lo was the recipient of the Simone Montgomerie Encouragement Award and Justin Huxtable was recognised for his Listed win on the Darren Weir trained Krone in the Cinderella Stakes.
