2018 VILLIERS STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Fabrizio will bowl along out in front with the Blinkers reapplied. MY NORDIC HERO comes here off a last start win in the Festival Stakes. Did it impressively and should be open to further improvement third run from a spell. Only lightly-raced and has won third up in the past. Can become the first horse since Monton in 2011 to claim the Festival Stakes/Villiers Stakes double.

SKY BOY is flying through his grades. Comes here off a soft win over 1800m at Rosehill. Faces what is clearly his toughest test to date and also getting deep into his latest prep.

FABRIZIO could be peaking fourth up with the Blinkers reapplied after almost leading throughout when second in the Goulburn Cup. SAMBRO down in the weights has appeal at double figure odds along with DOUBT DEFYING dropping back in grade and distance from the Mackinnon Stakes.

Form Preview

Sky Boy capped his progressive rise through the classes in winning here, his fifth win in succession and his first at stakes level. He was given a good trip by Christian Reith racing in fourth place (one out and one back) before dashing to the front at the 200m. He then held on gamely to hold off a late challenge and win well. Aloisia raced in last place in the 13-horse field before commencing a strong run in the centre of the track from the 300m. She then made up many lengths, getting to within a long neck of the winner, for a very good second. My Nordic Hero raced back in 11th place, improved (under riding) on turning for home and kept running on well to take the minor placing. Sambro had a good trip in third place on the rails, tracking a solid pace (set by the leader Fabrizio). He challenged coming to the 200m and then kept battling on quite well for (2.2 lengths) fourth. Doubt Defying raced just beyond midfield in tenth place, switched to the rails nearing the 200m, briefly looked dangerous before battling on quite well for (2.6 lengths) fifth.
