Top Queensland mare Houtzen  showed she was back to her best when she broke the course record for 1050m in winning the Listed Bribie Handicap at Doomben.

The 2017 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner, Houtzen was ridden from behind when second in a Doomben barrier trial last week.

However, there were no such tactics on Saturday when Houtzen ($1.45) jumped to the lead and went on to beat Tycoon Ace  ($18) by 2-3/4 lengths in 58.83 seconds.

Tarzan  ($9) was a short head back in third place.

Trainer Toby Edmonds said he was far from surprised Houtzen had been able to break the previous course record of 59.17 seconds.

"She is a pretty good mare and has gone past $2 million in prize money today," Edmonds said.

"She is a Group One mare and had a bit on these in class."

Houtzen will now press on to the $1 million Magic Millions Sprint (1200m) on January 12.

"She can have a week out at our farm and then come back to get ready for the Millions," Edmonds added.
