Local organisation Women in Racing have created a bursary award for a local female participant in the racing industry and the inaugural award was presented on Sunday 16 December.
Donated by Women in Racing member Karen Ruse, a $1000 cash incentive was awarded to Sophie Rolfe.
Her application showed her dedication to the equine athlete, studying for qualifications in equine science and in the racing industry. 20 year old Sophie, studies via correspondence with Charles Sturt University and has goals of ongoing study to become a Veterinarian.
She works for her father, local trainer John Rolfe.Women in Racing President Sue King said “We would like the Bursary to be ongoing and plans are in place to fundraise to continue the bursary award”. Women in Racing hold several functions throughout the year with a majority of funds going to local charities.
CEO Andrew Clark said “its an outstanding contribution to assist a dedicated person in the industry to achieve her goals”.
