Bargain Snitzel filly Taken Everything looks destined for bigger things following her impressive win on debut at Wyong on Thursday.

The three-year-old from the Hawkes stable was a $1.55 favourite on the back of her eye-catching trial win at Rosehill on December 4.

Tommy Berry sat outside the leader nursing Taken Everything into the turn. She let down strongly in the straight, running down Looksea and drawing away for a length and a half win.

The filly was purchased as a yearling for only $12,000 with Michael Hawkes giving credit to the co-owner Brian McWilliam, his wife Robyn and their team.

“They have taken a lot of time with this filly. They purchased her at the sales and she doesn’t know what she’s worth,” Hawkes said.

“We’ve just nursed her and nursed her, she trialled really good and here we are.

“She is still very green and still learning. She is doing a lot wrong, but she’s got a lot of ability.

Berry said the filly still had plenty to learn.

“She was very, very new in the straight and is probably going to be a lot better horse next preparation.

“She has a lot of raw ability there but doesn’t know how to use it yet. I was very happy with the way she relaxed and sat off another horse. She hasn’t done that before, so it was a good effort.”

The Kim Waugh-trained Fuchu is another heading for metropolitan company after recording his third win for leading Wyong trainer on his home track on December 19.

Fuchu overcame a slow start and mid-race tussle, starting favourite on the strength of his last start Newcastle victory on December 2 over 1400m.

The 4YO proved too strong on the line taking out the Wyong Equine Clinic C2 over 1350m by a nose.

A relieved Waugh said Fuchu was a “city horse” and she would now set him for a mid-week metropolitan race.

“I was a little bit concerned because he was slow out and ended up back last when we thought he’d be mid-field,” Waugh said.

“They went steady but he sprinted really well. He got a pretty solid bump on the turn. He’s just tough and he finished it off great.

“It definitely was a big win all that happening.”

Apprentice Robbie Dolan, who partnered Fuchu at his last start win, said he believed the horse was improving.

“He got a bump coming out of the gates and he also got a pretty heavy bump just on the bend,” he said.

“It was a pretty big win because he’s only a small horse and to pick himself up and get his head down and win when it matters is really good.”

The win gave the in-form apprentice a narrow lead in the Rising Star series ahead of Jenny Duggan.

A return to the tried and true was the cause of plenty of celebration for Allan Kehoe and his large group of owners at the Wyong meeting.

Epic Dan upset some of the more favoured runners to score a strong home track win in the Twin Lakes Air & Solar BM64 by a length.

Sporting red and green coloured shirts, an excited group of owners from Taree and Wingham greeted the gelding and jockey Jason Collett when he returned to scale.

Kehoe said he had gone back to training the six-year-old the same way he had in his first preparation.

“I changed things up for him last prep and it didn’t really work,” Kehoe said.

“This time in I started doing things the way I’d done them earlier and it seemed to work. He trialled really well about three weeks ago and he’s won nicely today.

“I couldn’t believe the price because I consider he was the best horse in the race. He’s won handicap races and I felt he had the edge on the other runners.”

“We really needed that and it’s great to get a win for this bunch of owners. They are very enthusiastic so there will be some good celebrating.

“I’ll see how he pulls up before deciding where we go next.”

It was the tenth win for the Home On The Grange gelding from 38 starts.
