Warwick Farm transferred to Kensington

3 minute read

A race meeting has been transferred from Warwick Farm to Randwick's Kensington track because of extreme heat predicted in Sydney's south-west.

Predictions for extreme heat have prompted officials to transfer racing from Warwick Farm to Randwick's Kensington track.

The temperature at Warwick Farm in Sydney's south-west is expected to nudge 40 degrees on Saturday with Randwick several degrees lower with sea breezes.

It means the distances and field limits of some races have been reduced because of the chute positions on the inside track at Randwick.

They are:

Warwick Farm Mile 1600m now 1550m (Barrier Limit 14)

Benchmark 88 1200m now 1150m (Limit 12)

Benchmark 78 1000m no change (Limit 14)

Benchmark 78 1600m now 1550m (Limit 14)

Benchmark 78 1300m no change (Limit 12)

F&M Benchmark 78 1300m no change (Limit 12)

3yo Benchmark 72 1300m no change (Limit 12)

2yo Handicap 1200m now 1150m (Limit 12)

TAB Highway Handicap 1300m no change (Limit 12)

Acceptances will be declared as usual at 9am on Wednesday.

The once-controversial Kensington track re-opened for racing last year after being closed for almost 3-1/2 years firstly because of problems with the surface and secondly for a complete renovation.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
