Trainer Darren Weir was forced to resort to road transport after no space could be found for the 2YO on a commercial cargo flight out of Melbourne.

It means Yes Yes Yes will not arrive at the Gold Coast until Wednesday or Thursday night after two days of travelling in the summer heat.

He has stablemate Platinum Angel, an entry for Saturday’s $1 million Magic Million Fillies and Mares, for company on the arduous float trip.

They left Weir’s Ballarat stable late on Monday and stopped overnight at Albury. On Tuesday the float travelled to Newcastle for another overnight stop.

They were swum on Wednesday morning and will stay in Newcastle until late in the day before travelling overnight to the Gold Coast unless the conditions are too hot.

If that is the case their final leg will be delayed until late Thursday..

“It’s not ideal but we have to live with it,” said Weir, who was clinging to hope that Yes Yes Yes would be booked on to a flight out of Melbourne on Tuesday or Wednesday.

“It just makes the assignment a lot harder, but the horse is in good shape.”

Horses are the first to go when space on commercial cargo flights becomes critical.

Weir said Yes Yes Yes and Platinum Angel pleased him when they worked in the clockwise direction at Ballarat on Monday.

At that stage they were booked to be flown to the Gold Coast on Monday night flight but were bumped from the flight.

The odds are now stacked against Yes Yes Yes, who has won two of his three starts in Melbourne.

Not only does he have to endure the long and hot road trip, he has drawn the outside gate in the capacity field of 21 which includes five emergencies. He will jump from gate 16.

“The barrier makes it a lot harder. I think everyone wants their horse to draw inside and we were hoping to do that,” Weir said.

Wide gates did not stop the last two winners of the MM Classic.

Sunlight won from barrier 12 last year and Houtzen came from gate 16 in 2017.
