The Haley family have donated a famous Brisbane Cup trophy to the Eagle Farm museum, 57 years after their horse Tulloch won the race.

One of the most famous pieces of Queensland racing history has returned home to Eagle Farm for the first time in 57 years.

In 1961 the legendary galloper Tulloch, carrying 62.5kg, won his final race in the Brisbane Cup at Eagle Farm when ridden by George Moore and trained by Tommy Smith.

Tulloch was raced E A Haley whose family has had the Brisbane Cup in their possession ever since but on Saturday they gave it back to the Brisbane Race Club's Thoroughbred Racing History Association's museum.

Mr Haley's grand-daughters Ruth Bevan, Deb Haley and Sue Ridegwell were on hand to give the Cup to history association president Peter Howard.

"It is a fantastic gesture by the family to give this valuable piece of history back to us," Howard said.
