2019 BLUE DIAMOND PRELUDE (F) – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Tough to map but the large field is sure to run along. Expect Vinicunca to clear the wide gate and possibly lead.

CATCH ME was far too good in the Gimcrack Stakes before spelling and then won comfortably here FU also at Group 3 level. Should find a nice sit from the low gate and fitter can come over them again.

BROOKLYN HUSTLE was slow off and back on debut at Open 2 level and did a good job to record the easy win. Drawn out she's Is likely to settle back again but expect here to be steaming home and prove the danger.

ATHIRI resumes and was much too good at Rosehill on debut in the Open 2. That stacks up and she owns a sharp trial win for this. Needs a good ride but is likely to get it from JMac. LANKAN STAR and LYRE may be best of the rest presenting off LS Maiden wins but don't rate winning chances.

Form Preview

In a surprise result, the Godolphin-raced filly Lyre scored at $26. Having her third start after winning a Sale 2yo fillies' maiden (1100m) at Sale on Jan 20, she settled in seventh place (wide with cover), switched out on straightening, sprinted well, challenged at the 100m and finished a bit too well for a smart win. Vinicunca showed good pace from her outside barrier (12) to lead. She grabbed a break on straightening and then fought back gamely for (long neck) second in a bold first-up performance. Athiri raced in fourth place, wide without cover, moved up well at the 200m and then battled gamely for a close up third after a difficult trip. Lankan Star was and handy fourth, between runners and held on well for (2.2 lengths) fourth while Brooklyn Hustle made late ground from ninth at the home turn for fifth, beaten 3 lengths. The favourite Catch Me raced outside the leader (Vinicunca) but faded in the straight for (6.9 lengths) tenth, her first defeat in three starts.
