The classy young stayer travelled to Australia last spring to finish fifth in both the WS Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup when trained for Coolmore by Aidan O’Brien.

He has since been purchased by a syndicate headed by Mark Pilkington, a close associate of Lindsay Park trainers David Hayes, Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes.

Rostropovich hasn’t raced since finishing seventh in the Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin in December.

Rostropovich won four races up to G2 level in Ireland and was also second in the G1 Irish Derby.

David Hayes said he was unsure when Rostropovich will land in Australia but is looking forward to preparing him for the spring.

"He raced in Hong Kong so it's not straightforward to get him back to Australia," Hayes said.
