Zabeel Mile Start For Comin' Through

Trainer Chris Waller will be looking for improvement from his globetrotting G1 winner Comin’ Through when he has his second Dubai start against a crack field at Meydan tonight.

Comin’ Through was only fair in his only previous UAE start when seventh in the G2 Al Fahidi Fort at Meydan on January 24.

Tonight he takes on the G2 Zabeel Mile (1600m) where his opposition includes the winners of the latest two runnings and has drawn runners from England and South Africa.

The 2017 winner Championship, trained by Ahmad bin Harmash, was progressing rapidly at the time but was ruled out of both Super Saturday and the Dubai World Cup meeting with an injury.

Owned by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the 8YO has not won since but ran his best race when he returned from injury in last year’s Zabeel Mile when he was a solid runner-up to Janoobi.

He is second up this time after resuming with a sixth in the Al Fahidi Fort.

He led for the majority of the race last year before being snared by Janoobi, who provided South African Mike de Kock with a record fourth victory in the race that serves as a key prep for next month’s $6 million Dubai Turf.

Wearing the colours of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the 5YO has not won since but has been improved by multiple at this year’s carnival including a failed dirt try in last week’s G3 Firebreak Stakes.

De Kock said: “We tried Janoobi on the dirt and he did not seem to like it. We know these conditions suit him, so hopefully from his low draw he can bounce back.”

Stable companion Marinaresco will be having just his second start for De Kock.

Already a multiple G1 winner finished a disappointing ninth in the Al Fahidi Fort on his Meydan debut.

“Marinaresco needed that first run, as we knew he would, and we have targeted this race for him,” De Kock said.

Simon Crisford saddles classy multiple G1-placed Century Dream, the mount of Oisin Murphy who is having his first start since finishing third to Roaring Lion in the G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes on British Champions Day at Ascot in October.

The remaining four runners carry the Godolphin blue, with Christophe Soumillon aboard Top Score for Saeed bin Suroor and William Buick riding Mythical Magic for Charlie Appleby.

Appleby also starts G3 winner and G1 St James’s Palace Stakes-placed Wootton with James Doyle aboard, while Listed winner First Contact looks to improve upon a poor showing in the G2 Al Rashidiya on January 24.
