2019 LIVERPOOL CITY CUP - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Liverpool City Cup has been a part of the Sydney autumn carnival since its inception in 1970.

Its traditional home has been Warwick Farm, the racecourse that lies with the boundaries of Liverpool City in western Sydney, but has been run a number of times at Randwick since 1980.

The first Liverpool City Cup in 1970 was run over 12 furlongs when it replaced the race known as the Warwick Farm Autumn Cup but from 1971 it has been run as a feature sprint race run over distances of 1200m, 1300m and 1400m.

In 1974 it was run in two divisions when the winners were Toltrice and Itchy Feet.

The Liverpool City Cup was run over 7 furlongs/1400m from 1971 to 1978 when it attained Group 3 status. From 1979 to 2007 the race distance was 1200m.

The Liverpool City Cup has been run over 1300m since 2008.

The 2019 Liverpool City Cup has prizemoney of $160,000.

Previous notable winners of the Liverpool City Cup include Abdul, Zambari, Toltrice, Lord Nelson, Gilt Pattern, Wave King, Burwana, Arbogast, Seeker’s Gold, Satin Sand, Ma Chiquita, Pharoah, Chlorophyll, Accomplice, Monopolize, Bomber Bill, Danleigh, Terravista and dual winners Boasting and All Archie.

The 2018 Liverpool City Cup was won by Crack Me Up from Care To Think and Burning Passion.
