Quality-mare Oregon's Day staged a smart effort in winning here on her first start since October having not won previously when resuming. She settled in fourth place on the rails from her inside barrier (1). Damien Oliver got her along the inner to take the lead at the 300m and she then dug deep when challenged to win well, her fourth stakes victory in 25 starts to date. The favourite, the progressive mare Clarice Cliffs, had a good trip in fifth place between runners before Nikita Berriman eased her into clear running on straightening. She looked dangerous when she challenged at the 200m and then battled well for (neck) second in a very good effort in advancing to this class on her fifth start. Aristia was seventh on the rails, eased into clear running at the 300m and then ran on very well for third in a promising effort on her first start since winning the VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) in November. Jason Warren-trained mare La Tigeresa settled near last in the 13-horse field, went widest of all at the home turn and then finished really well for (1.8 lengths) in a very good effort stepping up in class here at her seventh start.
