Spanish Whisper began fairly and sat fifth, three out, when they settled. Still three wide at the 800m (no cover) she crept closer to the lead nearing the straight and was handy enough at the 400m. Jockey Dwayne Dunn gave her a shake at the 300m and she moved into second then went after the leader, grabbed the front inside the 50m and edged away for a solid win, her third (second Group 2) in ten starts. Victory Kingdom sat third (one out) from the 800m, pulled out at the 400m then raced up to lead at the 250m. She was away by a length at the 150m but was caught at the 50m. Well back (rails) at the 400m, Angelic Ruler had nowhere to go, got a narrow split at the 250m then rattled home to almost get second. The Closer ran on down near the fence to hold fourth.
