Spanish Reef defended her win in this race a year ago and has now six wins including three stakes plus $544,100 in the bank. She was second, one out, when they settled, remaining there from the 1200m all the way to the top of the straight. Rider Mark Zahra gave her a shake at the 400m and she levelled up to the leader at the 300m but didn't take over until the 200m. Once in front she kept fighting, holding off a determined challenge from Naantali and a tough win. Naantali sat fourth, one out, from the 600m, tracked the winner into the straight and kept slugging it out the length of the straight but could not get past. The first two were well clear. Pure Scot was third (rails) turning in, fourth at the 200m and kept on well for third from Futooh who finished on quite well from the rear to nab fourth.
