2019 CHALLENGE STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Only a small field in this year's Challenge Stakes, though very much looking forward to the clash of Redzel and Estijaab.

REDZEL failed to fire in the VRC Sprint Classic prior to a break, however his performance to win the Everest still leaves him as clearly the horse to beast. Has trialled as well as ever and goes like a bomb fresh. Drawn to stalk Estijaab and should prove mighty hard to hold out.

ESTIJAAB returned from a lengthy break in fine order when game in defeat behind Fiesta. Since trialled very well and should give plenty of cheek out in front. BALL OF MUSCLE is very fast and looks to lead from the inside. Doubt he can topple the top two, but should be there for a long way.

Group 1-placed sprinter Ball Of Muscle took out his fourth Group 2 victory here in staging a really game first-up performance in winning. He showed his customary pace to retain the lead, despite early pressure (from Jungle Edge). He held a clear advantage on straightening and then dug deep to win by the narrowest of margins. Dual The Everest (1200m) winner Redzel settled in fourth place, moved up (wide) rounding the home turn, challenged nearing the 100m and kept finishing well to miss by the narrowest of margins in a good effort, resuming here. Viridine raced in second last place in the six-horse field, moved up at the 200m and kept running well on for a close-up third at his first start this preparation after being gelded. Kaepernick battled on well for (1.8 lengths) fourth with Estijaab (2 lengths) fifth, after briefly looking a threat on turning for home after racing in third place.
