2019 PHAR LAP STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Another very competitive contest with a near capacity field set to face the starter in this year's Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes. Not a lot of obvious speed engaged, could prove quite tactical.

ARISTIA (6) returned with a bang last start when closing off well to finish third behind Oregon's Day. Didn't have the best of luck there and is expected to improve sharply racing second up. Trending the right way and shapes as one of the hardest to beat.

VERRY ELLEEGANT (11) split Amphitrite and Fundamentalist first up and the fact JMac sticks is as good a push as any. Inside draw is tricky, but she clearly has the talent. QAFILA (10) impressed winning first up and has to be respected from the middle draw.

Verry Elleegant scored a very smart win here, now looking on track for the upcoming ATC Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m). She raced in fourth place on the rails, went through on the inner at the leaders fanned deep at the home turn. She got to the front at the 200m and impressed in the manner in which she drew away over the closing stages to score decisively. Seabrook shared the lead, went deep at the home turn and held an advantage on straightening. She then fought well for second at her second run this preparation. The VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) winner Aristia was a handy third (wide), went deep at the home turn and then kept battling on well for third in a sound effort at second run back. Qafila raced in eighth place, got between runners at the home turn and then kept fighting on for (6.3 lengths) fourth.
