Lyndhurst stud manager Jeff Kruger will wait until after the Magic Millions March Sale before deciding on a new service fee for his rookie stallion Better Than Ready.

Better Than Ready, who stands at Lyndhurst Stud near Warwick for $9900, set a record for a Queensland sire when he had four runners in the Magic Millions Classic in January.

He will go even better than that with five runners (The Odyssey, Ready To Roam, Xanthus, Girls Are Ready and Epicurious) in Saturday's $500,000 2YO Aquis Jewel at the Gold Coast, equalling a record for a Queensland-based sire in a two-year-old race.

Lyndhurst's champion sire of the 1969-70s Smokey Eyes had five runners in the Listed McDougall Stakes, then the first two-year-old feature of the season, on at least two occasions.

Better Than Ready has had 12 individual winners of 17 races from his first crop.

Kruger said the stud was obviously thrilled with the efforts of Better Than Ready.

"He has 49 listed for next week's Magic Millions March sale and he has been selling well at the other major Australian yearling sales," Kruger said.

He said a decision on whether to increase Better Than Ready's stud fee for next season was likely after next week.
