A rare near white galloper, Valac has been named as the horse the leading Victorian stable plan to send to Albury on Friday in a bid to win the richest country cup race in NSW for the third time since 2010.

Lindsay Park has won the Commercial Club Albury Cup (2000m) twice with Growl (2010) and Extra Zero (2012), the latter also finishing second in 2011. Co-trainers David Hayes, Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes have had runners in the Albury Cup almost every year since 2012 with their best result a fourth in 2018 with Sin To Win.

"Valac is a likely starter," said Lindsay Park racing manager Ryan Moore.

"It will be confirmed on Monday after he works but the Albury Cup is firmly on the radar.”

Irish-bred Valac came to Australia as a maiden in but with five placings to his credit from his first eight starts in Ireland as a 3YO when trained by Dermot Weld.

He began racing in Australia in 2017 and has since won six of his 14 starts over distances from 1400m to 2250m and showed another win was looming at his latest start when second to Hang Man over 2000m at Flemington on March 9.

The Ciaron Maher/David Eustace-trained Thunder Cloud finished third and is also expected to be an Albury Cup entry.

Entries for the Albury Cup close at 11am on Monday.
