2019 NE MANION CUP – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Good competitive staying contest with a number of differing form-lines converging. Speed drawn predominantly on the inside, expect an even tempo.

SHRAAOH (10) displayed sharp improvement last start when only narrowly edged out at Randwick over 2000m. Open to further improvement off the back of that effort and he is sure to relish the extra trip. Won on a heavy track at Flemington prior to a break and should prove hard to beat down in the weights with McEvoy sticking aboard.

MIDTERM (9) wasn't beaten far at Mornington in his return and notably gets the blinkers on for the first time. Hasn't won in over 500 days, but is certainly more than capable. Kah comes up to ride, major threat. BIG DUKE (1) is building nicely this time in and should be nearing his top third up, while ONE FOOT IN HEAVEN (3) can also improve.

British-bred gelding Midterm staged a strong-staying effort in taking out this Group 3 race in impressive fashion, his first win in seven starts since coming to Australia. He travelled well outside the leader (Big Blue), put pressure on that runner and took a clear advantage rounding the home turn and was not seriously threatened from that point to score comfortably by two lengths. Big Duke settled in eighth place, improved between runners at the home turn, went to third at the 200m and kept battling well under his 58kg for second in a solid effort. The favourite Shraaoh had a nice trip in fifth place, on the rails, got through to be in a challenging position at the 300m and kept battling well for third. One Foot In Heaven raced at the tail of the 12-horse field until he improved between runners on turning for home and then kept running on for (3.2 lengths) fourth in an honest effort at his third run back.
