No New Date For Albury Cup

3 minute read

Last Friday’s Albury Gold Cup meeting has been abandoned after a new date could not be confirmed in the short term.

Albury Racing Club had been hoping to secure a replacement date in April for the $460,000 meeting postponed without a race being run after the course was hit by a torrential storm three hours before the first race.

Racing NSW was unable to pinpoint a suitable date on the racing calendar in the Southern Districts region for the meeting to be re-scheduled.

ARC chief executive Steve Hetherton said it was impossible to find a date in April that would not have had an impact on other meetings in the region, especially with the Wagga Cup carnival in the first week of May.

"We didn’t want to make our loss someone else's loss as well,” Hetherton said.

Consideration may still be given to adding the $180,000 Albury Gold Cup to an Albury TAB program later in the year.

Hetherton said a specialist evaluation of the Albury track was underway in the wake of last Friday’s washout.
