2019 DONCASTER PRELUDE – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Wide open affair with a host of leading chances in this year's Group 3 Doncaster Prelude. Tempo only looks fair with not a lot of speed on paper.

KAONIC (7) looks to be trending the right way and knocking on the door following his solid effort behind Fifty Stars last start. Should be closing in on his peak third up and while likely to get back from the wide draw, he should be strong late.

MASK OF TIME (5) was only just edged out late last start and looks to get a similar run on-speed here. Clipperton sticks and he should prove hard to get passed.

SEAWAY (8) ran well of his form last start, however he is clearly better than that and is worth another chance with McEvoy sticking aboard. INVICTUS PRINCE (9) a big query runner having refused to leave the barriers in the Newcastle Newmarket last start.

In a Chris Waller-trained trifecta Mister Sea Wolf scored a good first-up win. Having his first start since racing in WA late last year, he settled in fourth place (one out and one back). He moved up nicely rounding the home turn, hit the front at the 200m and then fought back well under his top weight (59kg) to score a good win, albeit by a head. His stablemate Abdon raced in fifth place, on the rails, got through on the inner to be in a challenging position at the 300m and then kept battling gamely for a close second at his second run this preparation while Tom Melbourne had a good trip in third place, challenged at the 300m and then battled on for yet another placing in taking third while the favourite Mask Of Time led the field until reaching the 300m and then held on for (2.5 lengths) fourth.
