Randwick Trial For Vega Magic

3 minute read

Crack sprinter Vega Magic will continue his preparation for the TJ Smith Stakes with a barrier trial at Randwick on Friday.

The trial follows an exhibition gallop between races at last week’s Albury Cup carnival where the multiple G1 winner was carrying condition and was given a sterling workout.

The Lindsay Park-trained Vega Magic has not raced since he finished 12th in the Everest at Randwick last October when he struggled in the heavy conditions.

He was later found to have suffered a tendon sheath injury.

Co-trainer David Hayes said Vega Magic was making steady progress towards the $2.5 million TJ Smith (1200m) on Saturday week.

"He had to have an easy couple of months after The Everest but has done a heap of rehab,” Hayes said.

Vega Magic trialled up the straight at Flemington before he day out at Albury where he wore protective boots on his forelegs in the 800m gallop.

“He'll go to the TJ Smith unless it's a very heavy track,” Hayes said.

“If he comes through he'll then go to the All Aged Stakes."

The All Aged Stakes (1400m) will be a highlight of the final day of the Randwick carnival on April 20.
