Spend (Team Hawkes): The boom on this $1.55 million colt will be deafening after this super heat win that was more impressive than his first trial win on March 7. He showed more early pace this time to sit second before peeling out and idling past the leader under a big hold from Brenton Avdulla and pull away to record the softest of wins by two lengths. The class of his win was underlined by his time as no other 895m heat came close to his time of 53.40 nor his last 600m sectional (34.70). Word is he will take on Group company on debut and is sure to be well supported.
Calculated (Chris Waller): Failed to fire in two starts in March but this impressive heat win over 1030m indicates he can turn his form around when next produced. Hugh Bowman had him in cruise control as he easily ran past the leader, extending strongly for a comfortable win that was more in keeping with his excellent early form.
Hostwin Supreme (Gary Moore): The speed he displayed to win his 895m by almost seven lengths in solid time (54.70; 34.90) should see him soon drop his maiden status. He’s placed twice in four starts and the three trials he has had since February have him ready to win.
