2019 CARBINE CLUB STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Carbine Club Stakes is Group 3 race for three-year-olds conducted by the Australian Turf Club at Royal Randwick.

The Carbine Club Stakes was introduced in 1981 and is run over 1600m for three-year-olds under set weight and penalty conditions.

The race is sponsored by the Carbine Club of NSW, an organisation named in in honour of Carbine, the champion stayer of the late 19th century who won two Sydney Cups and the Melbourne Cup and had had a prolific impact on thoroughbred breeding as a sire in Australia and England.

The Carbine Club Stakes was a Listed Race from 1986 until 2010. Since 2011 it has been Group 3.

The 2019 Carbine Club Stakes will be run over 1600m at Randwick on the first day of The Championships for prizemoney of $200,000.

Notable winners of the ATC Carbine Club Stakes include Around The Traps, Bring Home, Rigoletto, New Acquaintance, Golden Sword, Juggler, Noise, Le Zagaletta, Toulouse Lautrec, Belmonte, Road To Rock, Needs Further, Al Dhafra, Fat Al, Toydini, Hi World and He’s Our Rokkii.

The 2018 Carbine Club Stakes was won by Muraaqeb from Dissolution and Holy Snow.
