2019 KINDERGARTEN STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Kindergarten Stakes is a Group 3 race for two-year-olds conducted by the Australian Turf Club at Royal Randwick.

The Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) was first run in 1987 and was originally established as an early autumn lead-up race to the Golden Slipper.

The Kindergarten Stakes has been run as a later autumn carnival race since 2012 as part of the Derby Day program at Randwick.

The Kindergarten Stakes was originally run at Warwick Farm from its inception in 1987 until 1994 and again from 1996 until 2000 and from 2002 to 2007. It was last run at Warwick Farm in 2010.

The Kindergarten Stakes is run under set weights conditions and has been a Group 3 race since 1998. It was a Listed Race from 1989-1997.

The 2019 Kindergarten Stakes will be run over 1100m at Randwick on the first day of The Championships for prizemoney of $200,000.

Between 1987 and 2011 five two-year-olds won the Kindergarten Stakes/Golden Slipper double - Star Watch (1988), Bint Marscay (1993), Guineas (1997), Belle Du Jour (2000) and Forensics (2007).

Other notable winners of the Kindergarten Stakes include Christmas Tree, Show County, Slight Chance, Easy Rocking, Snowland, Niello, Wanted, Solar Charged, Safeguard, Hallowed Crown and Astern.

The 2018 Kindergarten Stakes was won by Paquirri from Legend Of Condor and Lean Mean Machine.
