2019 CHAIRMAN’S QUALITY – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Wide open staying contest with a number of these more than capable on best form. Expect and even tempo over the 2600m journey.

SUPERNOVA (19) steps up sharply in grade, but is clearly a galloper heading the right way following his dominant display at Rosehill last start over 1900m. Drawn to receive all the favours and while he has to raise the bar, he appears more than capable. Hard to beat.

SHRAAOH (14) didn't handle the heavy track last start as he is clearly better than that. A firmer track has to enhance his chances. SIR CHARLES ROAD (5) rates well on best form and has to be respected with Shinn back aboard. GOATHLAND (16) continues to race well, next best.

Form Preview

Gallic Chieftain came into calculations for the Sydney Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) with a strong-staying effort in winning here. Having his third run this preparation, he settled back in tenth place, before improving nicely (between runners) from the 600m. He switched deep on passing the 300m and then came with a well-timed run to grab victory at the post by a half-length. Chris Waller-trained Irishbred import Shraaoh has now been placed in three of his last four starts this preparation. He settled back in 11th place, tracked up (deep) from the 800m, moved up well on turning for home, hit the front nearing the 100m and then fought well for second. Semari raced in eighth place, between runners, got a split at the 300m, challenged at the 200m and kept battling well for third from Sir Charles Road, who ran on well from 13th for (1.9 lengths) fourth. The favourite, the British-bred Supernova, was well back in 14th place and made ground along the rails and then fought on well for (2.1 lengths) sixth at his third Australian start in this Group 2 race.
