Leading jockey Craig Newitt has been cleared by Racing Victoria stewards after the conclusion of a betting inquiry.
Newitt was at the centre of a multi-state stewards investigation into the alleged betting activities of jockeys conduicted by Racing Victoria and the Tasmanian Office of Racing Integrity.
Newitt, now based in Tasmania, fronted Victorian stewards in February.RV stewards confirmed in a statement that Newitt is in the clear and won't be continuing with the investigation.
"Having considered all the evidence before them, it has been determined that no action will be taken under the Rules of Racing," the statement said."Should new evidence come before the stewards in the future then they reserve their right to re-open the investigation."
Newitt, who has ridden 35 G1 winners, said he was confident he had nothing to answer."To be honest I wasn't too worried about it because I knew I'd done nothing wrong," Newitt said.
