One of New Zealand’s great trainers Trevor McKee has died after a battle with illness.
Along with his son Stephen, they trained one of New Zealand’s all-time greats Sunline.
She won numerous Group 1s including two comprehensive Cox Plates.
Now on the eve of another Doncaster Mile, we remember she won two of them as well in different fashions – one by lengths as a filly and one three years later by a nose from Shogun Lodge.
He is being fondly remembered, on both sides of the Tasman, as both a great horseman but also as a fine gentleman and racing ambassador.
One of the greats of NZ racing, Trevor McKee, who co-trained Sunline, has passed away today after a battle with illness. A gentleman and friend to so many we will miss him.

Very very sad to learn that Trevor McKee has died. A legend who was a kind-hearted man to all humans and horses he interacted with. Rest in peace TJ. Thank you sir. Thinking of his wife Noeline, son Stephen and all the family at this time.
