Smart mare Electric Light maintained her unbeaten record at 1200m when scoring a last-stride win in the Marjorie Charleson Classic at Ascot on Saturday.
The $100,000 sprint attracted a small but classy field of mares and it took until the final stride for Electric Light to get her nose in front.
Trained by Adam Durrant and ridden by Shaun McGruddy, Electric Light ($12) was one of several runners to make their runs together in the straight and she got the better of Lady Cosmology ($5) on the line for her sixth win at the distance.Market Ruler ($4.40) was just over half a length away in third.
Improved by a resuming fourth last month, Electric Light possesses an impressive strike rate with Saturday's win her eighth from just 11 starts and took her prizemoney to over $280,000.The win proved a tonic for Durrant, whose stable has endured a horror week after losing race favourite Assetro during the running of last week's WA Oaks.
