Rex Lipp continues top form at Toowoomba

3 minute read

Trainer Rex Lipp has been a major player on Weetwood Handicap-Toowoomba Cup day for many years and was in the winners' circle again with Gem Of Scotland.

Trainer Rex Lipp continued his long-running good form on Weetwood Handicap-Toowoomba Cup day when tough filly Gem Of Scotland  won on Saturday.

After being headed by runner up Howwonderfullifeis ($4.20) at the 200m Gem of Scotland ($3.30) fought back to win the Spirit Of Boom Handicap (1100m).

Lipp has had a long successful career with his best horse being the 2014 Group One Queensland Oaks winner Tinto.

However, he is also usually a player on the Toowoomba's biggest day having won won the Weetwood twice and the Cup four times.

He didn't have a runner in either main race on Saturday but Gem of Scotland flew his flag winning her third race in a row.

Gem of Scotland has now won three races from three starts and Lipp is looking at the backing her up next week.

"There is a 1000m race for her at Eagle Farm next week. I was going to turn her but but I might change my mind now," he said.

Jockey Jim Orman made it three wins from his past three metropolitan rides and he was impressed by Gem Of Scotland.

"She showed a lot of heart and I know I had something under me when the other one challenged her," he said.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
