2019 FERNHILL HANDICAP – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Not seeing a great deal of early pace. AUTOCRATIC (3) has been fair in his two runs so far this prep. Both have given the indication he's a colt needing a mile. Gets it here and appeals third up.

AMERCEMENT (1) has been making good late ground in her races, the latest when fourth behind stablemate Kiamichi in the Magic Night Stakes. Does have a tendency to get back in her races. Can potentially take up a slightly more prominent spot in this from barrier 1 and out to the mile.

VINCO (2) has won two of his past three starts, the latest over 1500m at Mornington. Bowman riding is a key booking. POWER SCHEME (4) ran second to Vinco last start. Now meets him 1.5kg better at the weights for just a slender defeat. Bred to appreciate a testing Randwick Mile.

Lindsay Park-trained colt Power Scheme appreciated the step up to 1600m and broke through for his first win in five starts here. He was ridden patiently by Mark Zahra and remained in seventh place (deep) before commencing his move at the 300m. He hit the front at the 100m and fought back to win by the barest of margins. Foxborough was also ridden quietly, settling in last place. He switched out rounding the home turn and then came with a strong late burst for the closest of seconds in a promising effort at only his second start. Extraordinary had a nice trip in third place, moved up at the home turn, looked under pressure at the 200m but lifted quite well in the latter stages to take third.
