Progressive Gwenda Markwell-trained gelding Archedemus took his record to six wins from nine starts in scoring his first stakes victory here. He began well and soon went forward to take the lead. He then travelled well at a good tempo under Corey Brown, got a break on straightening and then fought back gamely when challenged to win well. Tom Melbourne settled behind the leader and eventual winner, moved up to challenge halfway down the straight and then battled on well for second after conceding 6kg to the winner. Sixties Grove settled in sixth place, between runners, switched into clear running on turning for home and then ran on nicely for third in a promising effort on his return. New Universe raced in eighth place and made late ground when clear for fourth, beaten four lengths.
