Having her fourth run this preparation, talented mare I Am Excited staged a really smart effort in winning here, her sixth win (plus eight placings) from 20 starts and her fourth stakes success. She settled back in second last place in the eight-horse field, improved nicely between runners at the home turn, got a split at the 200m, hit the front at the 100m and then went on to score impressively after a well-judged ride by Blake Shinn. Dual The Everest (1200m) winner Redzel was ridden off the pace on this occasion, settling in fourth place, one out and one back. He moved up at the home turn, took the lead at the 200m but he could not hold off the late-closing winner to take second after seeming to have had every chance. Jonker was also ridden off the pace, racing sixth place, one off the rails. He took a while to wind-up on straightening before making late ground for third with Winter Bride, who had been fifth on the rails, battling on quite well for (3 lengths) fourth.
