2019 HAWKESBURY CROWN – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Good tactical affair with only a small field engaged in this year's Hawkesbury Crown. MULTAJA (6) followed up on her impressive win here two back when too strong late at Randwick last start. Form has already worked out well with Into The Abyss a tragedy beaten last weekend. JMac takes over and she should get a lovely suck run from the draw. Hard to beat.

IRITHEA (3) was very good fresh behind White Moss and is expected to improve further racing second up. Drawn well and looms as a major threat. MANICURE (2) disappointed last start, but is better than that and remains under strong notice off a freshen (42 days). PECANS (1) next best fresh.

The consistent Bjorn Baker-trained mare Irithea followed her good first-up second in the Sapphire Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Randwick on April 13 with a smart win in this Group 3 race, her seventh win (with ten placings) in 23 starts. She showed her usual pace to lead, travelled along well at a good tempo, grabbed a break rounding the home turn and then went to score in good style. The favourite Multaja settled in sixth place on the rails from her inside barrier (1) before getting through on the inner at the home turn. She went to second on passing the 200m and then battled on to hold that position, beaten a length. Her stablemate Manicure began well and settled behind the leader and eventual winner and kept battling on quite well in the straight to hold the minor placing.
