2019 HAWKESBURY GUINEAS – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Easily one of the main highlight of the afternoon with this year's Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas. Expect a genuine tempo over the 1400m journey.

TROPE (5) failed to come into contention at Randwick last start, however his effort prior was very good and a return to that level of form should see him very hard to beat. Drawn to possibly settle closer and should appreciate the step up in trip. Hard to hold out.

KYLEASE (9) continues to raise the bar with each performance and she is clearly a filly trending the right way. Drawn to lead and should take some pegging back.

MILITARY ZONE (2) had no luck first up and is expected to improve sharply racing second up. JMac sticks and he has to be respected. QUACKERJACK (3) won very well fresh, next best.

Promising Peter and Paul Snowden-trained gelding Military Zone is now the winner of four of his eight starts. Having his second run back after winning the Gosford Guineas (Listed, 1200m) in December, he settled in fifth place (one off the rails), improved rounding the home turn, hit the front at the 100m and then fought back to score a narrow, but good, win. Trope was slow to move, raced near the tail of the nine-horse field before improving (deep) coming to the home turn. He then continued to make good ground in the straight, getting to within a head of the winner for second, staging a smart effort. Quackerjack began well and raced in third place to the home turn. He got to the front halfway down the straight and then battled on well to take the minor placing. Ranier was back in ninth place to the home turn, got between runners on straightening and kept battling on quite well for (4.4 lengths) fourth. The favourite Kylease went to the front, was able to set a reasonable tempo in the mid-stages but weakened from the 200m to finish last, perhaps being tested by the increase in distance and class here.
