Classy Kris Lees-trained colt Gem Song took his record to five wins from nine starts in taking out his second Group 3 success here. He was smartly away before settling in fourth place prior to Blake Shinn patiently improving his position on turning for home. He moved up well on passing the 100m and then drew clear to score impressively by just over two lengths. Starkers showed good pace from his inside barrier (1) to lead. He was under pressure in the mid-stages, got a break at the 200m and then battled on well for second after running a bold race. Belle Roc raced back in fifth place and ran on well to take third from Napoleon Solo, who had raced in eighth place before making ground to finish fourth, beaten just over three lengths.
