British-bred stayer Abdon scored his fourth win and first stakes success in 25 starts in scoring here. He was ridden patiently by Tommy Berry and settled in second-to-last place in the 12-horse field before improving (wide with cover) from the 700m. He went quickly to challenge on straightening and after quite a battle, proved too strong to win well. High Opinion was fourth early on, improved (three wide) nearing the 600m, hit the front shortly after turning for home and then battled gamely for second, beaten a half-length. Willi Willi raced in seventh place, got between runners at the home turn and kept fighting well to take the minor placing.
