Apprentice Lachlan King has been taken to hospital after falling in a race at Flemington.

King was riding Belgravia in Saturday's Brew Handicap (2600m) when he was dislodged early in the home straight.

Belgravia suffered a serious racing injury and had to be humanely euthanised.

An initial Victorian Jockeys Association update said King was conscious and "complaining of elbow and knee soreness".

He has been transported to Epworth Hospital for observation, the VJA said.
