Canberra Racing Preview Wednesday 8 May 2019

3 minute read

The track is rated a soft 7 with the rail out 4m the entire circuit. Further showers are possible this morning (Wednesday). A rare Wednesday meeting in the capital and it’s drawn competitive fields.

Race: 1

Assault’N’Bathory, Black Wand and Contaminated will be prominent from the jump. A competitive race to start the program. FRANCISCO PIZARO (2) met trouble placing 20 days ago at Albury when back in trip off the Listed Canberra Guineas. At the run prior he missed a nose here at this distance and he looks well-placed to go one better. BLACK WAND (1) led and raced much better at Wagga when beaten less than a length at the mile. He can win this at best and might be ready to find it using the low gate. CONTAMINATED (4) won the Maiden as expected at his second race start. He looks promising and gets the chance to go on for the Olive yard. ASSAULT'N'BATHORY (3) led unchallenged here 12 days ago and blitzed the Maidens by 6.5L. This is tougher, but no knock on that and he again gets the chance to lead from the rail. METRALLA (9) returned in good order placing behind Wyendra and that stacks up. Keep very safe with the claim. BET: # 2 Francisco Pizaro to win.

Race 2

Motime and Estaverdi can make the speed. Another very open race. READY SET SING (1) rates well at best but tends to be slow away. The low draw may not prove ideal but he will be hitting the line and gets his chance coming off stronger grade at Newcastle. STATO (7) made sharp improvement winning easily at Goulburn in a 58. Draws handy and should go close with Cahill taking over. MOTIME (4) just missed third-up at Wagga in stronger. He will use the rail and expect him to see it out okay. ESTAVERDI (6) overcame early trouble to lead and win the Maiden at her second race start. She looks capable of going on. BET: The market will tell with # 1 Ready Set Sing and backing each way if there’s positive support.

Race 3

Kid Galahad will lead from Dangerous Breeding. KID GALAHAD (5) led and won the Maiden second-up at Nowra as the market expected. Made a ratings spike in that and no surprise if he wins again controlling the race from the rail. OUR FINVARRA (3) impressed here last start coming hard to miss a lip behind Show Me The Honey in stronger grade. Needs a good ride from Cahill but rates to go close. DANGEROUS BREEDING (2) draws handy and presents off a forgive run. Three back she won a 65 here and that would make her very competitive. BET: With Kid Galahad who looks to have good upside.

Race 4

Jeddah Aheadah and Leola will be prominent from the jump. JEDDAH AHEADAH (6) improved again third-up beaten a nose here at this trip after being wide. Impressed in that and gets the chance to go one better racing handy with the weight drop. RED MY MIND (2) improved to place here the latest in a 55. Draws well and gets the winkers first time and expect them to make a difference. GLAMARAMA GIRL (9) posted a good figure two back winning the Nowra Maiden by 4L. Draws low and races like the middle distance will suit. BET: With Jeddah Aheadah.

Race 5

Exrocka can lead from The Senator. EXROCKA (3) has placed both runs and just missed the latest at Wagga for the new yard. Expect the longer trip to suit and she’s the one to beat building on that. VOLERE (14) is up from Victoria and didn’t have the best of it resuming. Gets the in form McDougall and expect quick improvement. THE SENATOR (4) ran on to place at his second start at even-money and then disappointed after, and was vetted. Expect a better run today for the Matt Dale yard. BET: With Exrocka.

Race 6

No designated leader and High Street may do the job from the low gate. This is a very competitive Federal. GARROS (5) has won two of the last three and goes wet and dry. He won comfortably in the Nowra 66 the latest and is building a strong record. Keep Owen and expect further improvement. FUN TICKETS (3) tends to be slow off, but deserved the 65 win here and then was beaten 1.3L in Open grade at Wagga. Finds easier and gets the chance to bounce if Heywood can get the splits from a rails draw. HIGH STREET (10) jumps in grade but there is nothing wrong with her form. Posted her best figure missing a nose the latest and won here three back. She can use the low gate and has to be considered with the big weight drop. SHANGHAI PATROL (2) is the second Dale galloper and is second-up off open grade. The mile suits now and he is a winning chance at best. FRISKEE ONE (8) won here this grade two back at long odds posting a strong relative figure and then missed the kick by 3L beaten 2.4L in stronger at Warwick Farm. Likes the trip and is a chance with McDougall riding. BET: Taking a throw at the stumps with High Street each way.

Race 7

Speculative how they settle with lightly-raced and debutants and a number of lightly raced engaged. The market must be watched closely. JOY AND MIRTH (7) was well trialled and missed 1L on debut at Nowra after a slow jump. That Maiden rates highly and drawn low the filly is the starting point in a race with a few unknowns. OKSAL (8) has a similar profile and also draw low. Will be fitter for the debut near miss at Mudgee and the Sydney galloper is sure to be fancied. EAGLEHAWK (4) resumes for the new yard and is likely to have come on. He will be right in it at best. SEARCH AND DESTROY is ex Waterhouse-Bott debuting for the Matt Dale yard. The early market suggests he has ability and is ready to go. IL PROFESSIONALE (15) draws wide but the local gets the in-form McDougall and a good return wouldn’t surprise. BET: Joy And Mirth looks best of the raced and is the bet.
