After encouraging placings at recent starts at Rosehill and Randwick, Special Missile broke through for his first win since August 2017 in recording his sixth win in 27 starts and his first at stakes level here. He again showed good pace and went to the front. He then set quite a good tempo, was challenged at the 200m but he kept fighting back well under his limit weight (53kg) to win narrowly but well. The favourite Fierce Impact enjoyed a good trip in fifth place on the rails from his inside barrier (1). He got along the inner nearing the home turn to put in his bid halfway down the straight, gradually making ground on the winner, to whom he conceded 3kg, for second. Goldstream settled in a good spot, third on the rails. He went to second at the home turn and kept battling on nicely for the minor placing, finishing just in front of New Universe, who had been handily placed in sixth spot before fighting on well for fourth.
