Special Win For Jason Attard

Hawkesbury trainer Jason Attard had extra reason to celebrate Redazzity’s barnstorming last to first win at Mudgee on Sunday.

Attard and his wife Lucy recently purchased their own farm at Grose Vale – and Redazzity was the first winner to be trained from the property.

The Attards were previously based at Reibycroft Stud at Freemans Reach and have just settled into their new 15-acre farm.

“We took the big step and decided to buy this property when we saw it was on the market,” Attard said.

“It’s a similar distance, but in the opposite direction, to the track at Hawkesbury from Reibycroft.

“We have a huge barn, an outstanding show jumping arena, and a lot of day yards so I will be able to spell my horses as well.

“We’re very happy with the move and, of course we will still retain our close association with Syd and Carolyn Kelly at Reibycroft.”

Redazzity, patiently ridden by Hawkesbury apprentice Brandon Griffiths, provided Attard with his eighth winner of the season.

Redazzity came around every horse in the straight and his time of 1.37.35 was quicker than the 1.37.62 recorded later by 11-time winner Hirokin in the feature Gooree Cup.

“He produced a nice turn of foot in the straight and it all worked out well. Brandon deserved full marks for an excellent ride,” Attard said.

Redazzity has now won twice – both over 1600m – from only seven starts and his trainer is confident he will manage at least 2000m.

“Redazzity’s owners bred him and I broke him in,” he said. “I’m pleased to be training him because he hasn’t had a lot of racing and still has upside.

“You had to be impressed by the manner in which he won and the fact that he ran faster time than the Gooree Cup winner.”
