2019 KINGSFORD-SMITH CUP – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Irithea kicks up from the low draw with Dollar For Dollar and Home Of The Brave showing speed from out wide.

THE BOSTONIAN (2) did a great job to score an upset win in the Doomben 10,000 in what was a stronger field on paper than this. Unbeaten in Queensland and is two from two at this distance. Known as a fresh horse but still has a 50 per cent strike rate second up. Capable of back to back G1 wins.

TREKKING (6) has really put it together now having hit the line well to win stakes races at his past two outings. Won the Luskin Star last start at his first try at 1300m and he is drawn to get the favours. Smart three-year-old RINGERDINGDING (14) was freshened after his Carbine Club win but has trialled since. May be more of a Stradbroke horse but look for him hitting the line hard.

HOME OF THE BRAVE (7) disappointed first up but is better than that. Worth another chance. Doomben 10,000 placegetter DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR (5) and Victory Stakes winner I AM EXCITED (12) both deserve places in exotics.

The Bostonian followed his first-up victory in the Doomben 10,000 (Gr 1, 1200m) on May 11 with another really good effort in recording his second Group 1 success here, his ninth win in all from 16 starts. He was smartly away from his wide barrier (11) before Michael Cahill skilfully eased him to settle in fourth place on the rails, tracking a good tempo. He took a split coming to the 300m, went to the front at the 100m and then went on to win well and remain unbeaten in five Australian starts after an outstanding ride by Cahill. The $151 chance Princess Posh raced in tenth place on the rails, tracked the eventual winner from the 300m and finished off well for second, staging a good effort. The favourite Trekking had a nice trip from his inside barrier (1), racing in seventh place on the rails. He got between runners on straightening and kept running on well for third. Irithea went to the front, set a quick tempo, was only overtaken at the 100m and did very well in holding on for fourth, beaten a length, after running a bold race and at a quick pace. Two-year-old colt Dubious began well from his wide barrier (16), settled in sixth place (three wide with cover). He put in a good run coming to the 200m and then battled on really well for (1.5 lengths) fifth advancing to weight-for-age here.
