2019 QUEENSLAND OAKS – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Not a lot of speed on paper so the big field could see a tactical battle. PRINCESS JENNI (1) has powered through her grades this preparation and completed a winning hat trick when landing the G1 Australasian Oaks in Adelaide. Rates very well through that win and is unbeaten at 1600m and beyond. Big chance to land back-to-back Oaks wins.

ETANA (3) looks the leading contender of the fillies that have been campaigning in Queensland having finished strongly to win The Roses here last start. Should relish the extra 200m and has upside. Threat.

DUCHESS OF LENNOX (16) was an eye catcher against older horses last start. Horror draw but is progressing quickly and could blow them away. ALIFEROUS (2) just missed in The Roses after her fourth in the Australian Oaks. Only has to hold her form to be in the finish. ANGEL OF HEAVEN (12) has claims after a G3 second against the boys last week.

Perhaps a tad unlucky here two weeks back when tightened turning in, Winning Ways made amends, bursting to the front at the 200m and holding on for her seventh win in 13 starts. She began well and with a circuit remaining found the rail in second position. She was passed rounding into the back straight and was fifth at the 1400m before moving away from the fence three deep at the 600m to close in on the leaders. Turning in she was four wide, went up to challenge, took over at the 200m then held on gallantly by a neck. Dawson Diva was among the last group down the back, threaded between runners turning in but didn't see daylight until the 200m then rattled home for second. A big effort from Lady Cuvee who was last (rails) turning in then stuck to the fence the length of the straight, saw her finish strongly to land third. Angel Of Heaven was well back (rails) turning in then finished on, peaking just short of the line for fourth with the favourite Princess Jenni just battling on for (2.6 lengths) sixth after being handy all the way.
